The Beer Garden is closed for no apparent reason.

I'm still scratching my head, but my partner pulled the plug on our beer garden.  I can't go into details other than I can't afford the modified 'deal' that appeared out of nowhere.  We didn't get shut down, have a complaint, get a violation or incident.  Nobody expected to make a ton of loot off this, but I was certain that it would float the boat.

Please spread the word that GV is looking for a partner with access to 'Off Premesis Catering Permit' License #R-15491.  I have an opportunity to vend during 2nd Street fest Sunday Aug 3rd, 2014.  We can't serve on the street, but we can definitely make the doughnuts.  If I can't find a license to use, we're gonna make some noise.. think pool party with a wall of speakers and tasty tunes.

Despite the awful news, we're still moving forward with things, just back to BYO.

Call for The Perfect Person!

We are in the early stages of planning for spring + summer food truck and general happenings at Garden Variety. While we can't say exactly what we are looking for in this "perfect person", or what exactly their job will entail, we can say this.

We would love to find a super friendly, energetic, outgoing person to help us plan and manage operations this season. If you are the right fit, we will give you full creative freedom to curate the perfect food cart offerings, book events, rent the garden, or basically do anything you think will help make good use of our vacant lot. We are thinking that this would be more of a commission based job, but we are open to any suggestions. Please email if this sounds interesting to you.

Chances With Wolves / 2nd Street Fest

August 5th during 2nd Street Fest,  starting loosely around 2PM.

It's been a long time coming, it's Chances With Wolves at Garden Variety.  A darling of a DJ crew from East Village Radio in NYC, CWW plays hauntingly obscure records that take you on an quasi journey through the history of music in it's entirety.  These guys are true diggers. Kennan, my old friend and confidant, is partially responsible for my relentless pursuit of anti-popular music.

This is the first time Chances With Wolves are playing in Philadelphia, so let's give them a warm welcome.

To back up my lofty statements, check out one of their hundreds of amazing podcast/ radio show recordings:

First Friday in the Liberties

We like to combine unlikely things of joy.  Friday May 1st, we'll be the last stop on the Family Fun Scavenger Hunt, participating in the NoLibs First Friday affair, and providing drinks with the Gypsy bar.  While you're there you can enjoy the musical craftsmanship of djs Ginkgo & Frosty.

Night Market May 24th

Summer kicked into full swing with the first NoLibs Night Market.  Every so often we'll bring the noise, and this one was a doozie.  Thanks to our amazing dj's, Lina Luv, Jugo (link to his amazing cafe), Image and Frosty who set it off with a simply delightful blend of underground selections. The Gypsy Bar got us nicely toasted within reach of a hot dog and hand made ice cream.  Cheers to the veteran Dapper Dog crew and the new kid in town, Little Babys.  Ah yeah.
